Piccoli eroi e grandi destini. L’educazione dei bambini e delle bambine nei quaderni dell’Italia fascista

The essay proposes some reflections on the education in Italy of the twenties and thirties of the twentieth century, starting from the literature on the subject and then intends to analyze some elementary school notebooks of that period. The writing of children, which is an extraordinary source for historical reconstruction, is also a very ambiguous and opaque document, since, on the one hand, they bear witness to the child's activity, on the other, they are the result of bargaining with adults. It is therefore very difficult to analyze these documents, but they can offer interesting food for thought. The essay examines the notebooks of two scholars from the 1928-29 school years; 1930-31; 1931-32 and 1938-39, recently donated to the Historical Archives of the "Pier Amato Perretta" Institute of Contemporary History in Como. The analysis highlights the presence of role models and representations of the family often transmitted within strongly rhetorical messages.

Il saggio propone alcune riflessioni sull’educazione nell’Italia degli anni venti e Trenta, a partire dalla letteratura sull’argomento e intende poi analizzare alcuni quaderni di scuola elementare di quel periodo. Le “scritture bambine”, che costituiscono una straordinaria fonte per la ricostruzione storica, sono comunque anche un documento molto ambiguo ed opaco, poiché da un lato sono testimonianza dell’attività del bambino, dall’altro sono frutto della contrattazione con gli adulti. È quindi molto complesso analizzare questi documenti, ma essi possono offrire spunti di riflessione interessanti. Il saggio prende in esame i quaderni di due scolari risalenti agli anni scolastici 1928-29; 1930-31; 1931-32 e 1938-39, recentemente donati all’Archivio Storico dell’Istituto di Storia Contemporanea “Pier Amato Perretta” di Como. L’analisi mette in luce la presenza di modelli di ruolo e rappresentazioni della famiglia sovente trasmessi all’interno di messaggi fortemente retorici.
