In this article, I examine the hypothesis of a process of marginalization of the Fula in Guinea-Bissau, taking the category of marginality in a wider, historical sense, and not only related to the economic sector. In addition to being geographically peripheral, the territories of the Fula in the country – in particular the study deals with the case of the sector of Gabu – are in a marginal condition in terms of basic infrastructures and of education. The reasons for Gabu’s current situation derive from a historical and anthropological process that saw alliances between the Fula and the colonial power until 1974, but which has also roots in the rhetoric of the war for independence and in religious differences. The traditional Fula powers must today dialogue with the administrative authorities and the forms of communication among them use the technical or techno-political language to maintain the control of the land in the hands of the nation-state as it was formed after independence

Abstract
The traditional Fula powers must today dialogue with the administrative authorities and the forms of communication among them use the technical or techno-political language to maintain the control of the land in the hands of the nation-state as it was formed after independenceFile | Dimensione | Formato | |
