Regulatory approach to well head protection: analysis and use of available data. Assessing and managing health risks from drinking water contamination: approaches and applications

The results of research on groundwater contamination risk assessment, water resources management and land use planning of municipalities in Milan are presented. An approach which considers natural features and human impacts is presented. Drinking water well projects are assumed to include a monitoring well, and because there are limited quantitative data, statistical analyses of the qualitative data are incorporated into the optimization criteria. A package is designed for storing and manipulating water well reports in order to optimize the definition of the well head protection areas (WHPA).
