The idea of implementing an educational software environment arose after experimentation with a previously-developed itinerary that helped the child structure sentences correctly. This experimentation pointed out the need for a tool to achieve a better generalisation of the itinerary and better control over the subjective variables. A software program was developed, and given the name SEMELE (SEMantica ELEmentare); the program had the form of a game, and included a natural language analyser. This study involved three schools in Milan, with 9 teachers and 22 children ages 1-9. The results show the SEMELE program's effectiveness in improving the verbal completeness of children's sentences. © 1996, Copyright Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
