The importance of the communication between doctor and patient is widely recognize (Ong, 1995). A good communication can lead to a positive relation between the doctor and patient with advantage to both parties. Different research indicated that the doctor awareness about the emotion and the ideas that are involved in the medical encounter are important topic in order to improve the communication with the patient (Benbassat e Baumal, 2005). The present work aim to explore the medical student representation of the doctor figure and to improve the personal awareness of the medical students through the use of the narrative approach. The students are invited to complete a questionnaire concerning the personal story which lead them to study medicine and concerning their ideas about the medical work. Each narratives are then categorized on the basis of the core theme expressed. Additional themes are also included in the categorization. The image that arise from the data can help students and educators to reflect about possible future intervention.
