This Special Issue on “Monitoring, physical and numerical modeling of landslides and debris flows” was conceived during the International Symposium on “Geohazards and Geomechanics” held at the University of Warwick (United Kingdom) on 10–11 September 2015 and which saw the participation of almost 100 delegates. The conference proceedings were published in the open access IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, volume 26. The authors of a selection of the papers the conference organisers deemed to be most inspirational on the topic of ‘landslides and debris flows’ were invited to submit an extended version of the work to this Special Issue under strict guidelines about the maximum overlap that may exist with the published conference proceedings. Given the interest at the conference, it was also decided to make the call open. 35 papers were submitted to the Special Issue with 11 being eventually accepted. These cover: landslide investigation, monitoring, modeling, earth structure stability and stabilization.
