The article is the introduction to an issue of a review devoted to analyse the jurisprudential and theoretical developments of the obligation to investigate violations of the right to life in times of armed conflict. It summarises the most recent developments and summarizes the emerging dilemmas that need to be addressed. The interplay between international human rights law and international humanitarian law is also examined.
