In this paper I juxtapose the world views and the entanglements of a cohort of Acehnese young men, some Javanese migrant workers, a local mineshafts financier and a goldsmith who have been involved in the strikes of gold and semi-precious gemstones in the post-tsunami and post-conflict district of Aceh Jaya (Aceh, Indonesia). First, I analyze the practical and moral forces that tie natural riches and Acehnese people together. Then I describe the different access points to mining work, the divergent trajectories of mobility followed by Acehnese and migrant labourers, the asymmetrical relationships which arise out of the production of mineral commodities, the skills underlying extractive occupations and the meanings attached to work

Abstract
In this paper I juxtapose the world views and the entanglements of a cohort of Acehnese young men, some Javanese migrant workers, a local mineshafts financier and a goldsmith who have been involved in the strikes of gold and semi-precious gemstones in the post-tsunami and post-conflict district of Aceh Jaya (Aceh, Indonesia). First, I analyze the practical and moral forces that tie natural riches and Acehnese people together. Then I describe the different access points to mining work, the divergent trajectories of mobility followed by Acehnese and migrant labourers, the asymmetrical relationships which arise out of the production of mineral commodities, the skills underlying extractive occupations and the meanings attached to workI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
