Alterations in peripheral blood lymphocyte subpopulations have been demonstrated in many diseases in which plasmapheresis, together with glucocorticosteroids or other immunosuppressive drugs, are therapeutic alternatives. To investigate apheresis-induced modifications, lymphocyte subsets were monitored in eight patients receiving such treatment, with particular attention to changes in OKT4/T8 (helper/suppressor) ratios. The results suggest the possibility that treatment-induced changes in peripheral blood lymphocyte subpopulations are responsible for a normalization of the T4/T8 ratio in patients with abnormal starting values.

Abstract
Alterations in peripheral blood lymphocyte subpopulations have been demonstrated in many diseases in which plasmapheresis, together with glucocorticosteroids or other immunosuppressive drugs, are therapeutic alternatives. To investigate apheresis-induced modifications, lymphocyte subsets were monitored in eight patients receiving such treatment, with particular attention to changes in OKT4/T8 (helper/suppressor) ratios. The results suggest the possibility that treatment-induced changes in peripheral blood lymphocyte subpopulations are responsible for a normalization of the T4/T8 ratio in patients with abnormal starting values.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
