In 1652, at the age of 78, Pope Innocent X (Giovanni Battista Pamphilj, 1574–1655), experienced rapid-onset trembling of his right hand that was associated with sleeplessness. We argue that that the compatible typical features of psychogenic tremor could support a functional diagnosis for this historical case.

Abstract
