The paper describes an ambient intelligence system aimed at enhancing the experience of people moving inside the related physical environment. The latter is endowed with a set of sensors that perceive the presence of humans (or other physical entities such as dogs, bicycles, cars); the sensors interact with a set of actuators that choose their actions in an attempt improve the overall experience of these users. We will describe the example of an adaptive illumination facility to describe the problem and the proposed solution. © 2008 IEEE.
