We live in societies where the indirect interactions are increasingly important. These interactions are marked by the 'absence' between people who interact staying in different temporal and spatial situations. Between the logic of these interactions and that of face to face ones there are relevant differences. In this article, we focus on this argument. The paper is divided in two sections. In the first one, we discuss one of the most important category in this regard: the notion of 'time-space distanciation' proposed by Giddens. In the second section, we expand Giddens' theoretical framework to a number of other issues. From telephone to Internet, there is a technology of everyday life which gives rise to a transformation in sociality, a transformation that we can call 'intellectualization of life'. The growth of inderect interactions is a sign of this intellectualization. But this does not mean the birth of an immaterial society. It is only a new kind of time-space structuration of social reality
