La questione dell’identità nazionale ucraina

Ukraine has always been a ""middle land"" among nations, empires, states, religions. Its vast territory, mostly flat and fertile, crossed by the magnificent river Dnepr favored its condition of cultural crossroad and clash field, at the same time. Today, a little more than 20 years after its birth, Ukraine is still building its national identity through a process of construction and of emancipation from being simply considered a regional variant of the Russian nation. The Country has always had deep internal historical and cultural differences, more than ethnic ones. However, the two souls of the country: the one that looks to Russia and the other that aspires to Europe now have broken their balance and have come to the clash, and its outcome remains uncertain.

L’Ucraina, da sempre rappresenta una “terra di mezzo” tra popoli, imperi, stati, religioni. Il suo vasto territorio prevalentemente pianeggiante, fertilissimo, attraversato da un fiume imponente il Dnepr, ha favorito questa sua condizione non solo di luogo d’incontro ma anche di scontro tra culture diverse. Il Paese ha sempre presentato profonde differenze interne non tanto etniche quanto storiche e culturali. Oggi, a poco più di 20 anni della sua nascita, l’Ucraina si trova ancora in una fase di costruzione della propria identità nazionale attraverso un processo di costruzione e di emancipazione dall’essere semplicemente considerata una variante regionale della nazione russa. Tuttavia, le due anime del Paese: una che guarda verso la Russia, l’altra che aspira all’Europa, ora hanno rotto il loro equilibrio e sono arrivate ad uno scontro i cui esiti rimangono ancora incerti.
