Recent efforts to employ effective field theory tools in the study inflation are reviewed in some details. The effective approach naturally allows a comprehensive and unifying perspective on the many inflationary models available. This, as well as many other highlights of the effective theory treatment are analyzed in detail. Special attention is given to the primordial non-Gaussianities generated by such a general inflationary theory.
