The chapter of the book La natura delle cose, entitled “La causalità in fisica” and written by Federico Laudisa, analyzes the philosophical and epistemological role played by the notion of causality in the foundations of contemporary physics. The chapter addresses in particular the relation between causality and determinism and the role of causality in quantum mechanics and relativistic theories, defending in the last section an ‘emergentist’ approach to causality itself.
