Abstract

The natural and/or human hydrogeological balance changes determine modifications of the groundwater resources, both from a quantitative and qualitative point of view and rnust be evaluated in their reciprocal synergy in order to propose adequate management of the resources themselves. The Lombardy Regional Authority has the greatest rate of industrialization and population density in the European Union; these factors determine high levels of water exploitation as well as an intense use of the subsoil. The most important exploitation of the underground water reserve which occurred in the last decades in particular in urban zones, for drinkable and industrial use, has contributed towards determining a qualitative degradation of the water resources and a strong reduction in availability. Adequate management of the water resources requires careful monitoring of field data and also the use of innovative tools, as mathematical hydrogeological models, to produce significant time and space data processing.
