Morphological alteratiions of the tubulin cytoskeleton indicate functional damage. Primary rat hepatocyte cultures, both untreated (control) and treated (i.e., exposed to known concentrations of Benomyl) have been imaged with indirect immuno-fluorescence to visualise microtubule bundles. Four methods of image analysis have been applied: contour fractal analysis, mass fractal analysis, spatial differentiation, and non-linear filtering in the reciprocal domain. Morphological descriptors have been obtained, which have then submitted to multivariate statistical analysis for discrimination between control and treated classes. Discrimination has been statistically significant.
