Abstract

A review; 1,2,3,4-tetrafluoro-acridines are an interesting example of fluorescent semiconducting mols. with applications in materials science. The syntheses developed so far allow the prepn. of a wide class of fluorinated acridines, starting from pentafluoro-benzaldehyde and substituted anilines. The reactivity of tetrafluoro-acridines has been explored, in order to obtain polyfluoro-acridines which are not accessible by one-pot synthesis. Chemico-phys. characterization and some examples of applications of these systems in materials science are also reported.
