The article describes how the QUAQ (Questionnaire to measure Attitudes towards Questionnaires) was developed. The QUAQ comprises ten items that can be inserted at the end of any questionnaire and is aimed at measuring attitudes towards the questionnaire itself, such as interest, perceived utility, reluctance to answer, perception of one’s own response stability. A hierarchical factor analysis yielded three highly correlated factors: Reticence, Comprehensibility, and Relevance. The second level factor loaded on all three factors and depended on age; specifically, older people were more reluctant to describe themselves. Gender was related to Relevance, but had little influence on scores. Internal consistency was satisfactory, and was raised by applying constrained optimal scoring (Increased Cronbach’s alpha= 0.78). QUAQ correlations with Big Five personality factors assessed by the main questionnaire for 369 Italian adults are also presented.
