Evidence that language plays a crucial role in theory-of-mind development has come from longitudinal and training studies. The relationship between language and theory-of-mind is well embedded in mental-state talk, which includes both cognitive and emotional terms. This relationship will be critically discussed and an intervention procedure aimed at improving ToM through the active use of inner-state talk and narrative will be presented.

Abstract

Evidence that language plays a crucial role in theory-of-mind development has come from longitudinal and training studies. The relationship between language and theory-of-mind is well embedded in mental-state talk, which includes both cognitive and emotional terms. This relationship will be critically discussed and an intervention procedure aimed at improving ToM through the active use of inner-state talk and narrative will be presented.
