Patients with epilepsy are often in trouble when trying to sign a private insurance policy. This fact stems from an old belief about subjects with epileptic seizures as being at greater risk. This attitude may be sustained by the lack of uniform data on the prevalence of the principal morbidity and mortality risks in groups of subjects who might represent the general population of epileptic patients and in definite syndromic categories. Accordingly, a study is needed which aims at evaluating: 1. whether a difference exists in the distribution of everyday life risks in patients with epilepsy with respect to the general population; 2. how great is the risk; and 3. which are the underlying risk factors

Abstract
Patients with epilepsy are often in trouble when trying to sign a private insurance policy. This fact stems from an old belief about subjects with epileptic seizures as being at greater risk. This attitude may be sustained by the lack of uniform data on the prevalence of the principal morbidity and mortality risks in groups of subjects who might represent the general population of epileptic patients and in definite syndromic categories. Accordingly, a study is needed which aims at evaluating: 1. whether a difference exists in the distribution of everyday life risks in patients with epilepsy with respect to the general population; 2. how great is the risk; and 3. which are the underlying risk factorsI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
