In the last decades Southeast Asia has experienced civil wars as well as major “natural” disasters (typhoons, earthquakes, floods and tsunamis). The two volumes Life after collective death in Southeast-Asia examine the aftermath of such massive collective deaths in a middle term perspective . We look into how Southeast Asian societies live after environmental, social and human destruction has happened, what processes they go through in order to make sense of the disaster and cope with the destruction. On a personal level, this is both a painful and an exciting work as while meeting psychic and bodily sufferance, the researcher also gets in touch with people's and groups' capacity to overcome them. We deal as much with death as with vitality .
