La “funzione ontologica del femminile” in Emmanuel Levinas

In Levinas there is no theme of the difference between sex and gender; he, however, thinks the difference of the sexes according to gender stereotypes. His operation consists in a de-hypostatization of sex and gender, the difference of which moves on the level of the relationship, of which the genders themselves become paradigms. The feminine appears as an “ontological” relationship in the sphere of the Same; subordinated to the ethical sphere, it constitutes the background and the condition but, at the same time, its transgression that affects it and corrodes it in supporting it itself

In Levinas manca una tematizzazione della differenza tra sesso e genere; egli, tuttavia, pensa la differenza dei sessi secondo stereotipi di genere. La sua operazione consiste in una de-ipostatizzazione dei sessi e in una de-sostantivazione dei generi, la cui differenza si sposta sul piano della relazione, di cui i generi stessi diventano paradigmi. Il femminile appare come relazione “ontologica” nella sfera del Medesimo; subordinata alla sfera etica, ne costituisce lo sfondo e la condizione ma, al tempo stesso, la sua trasgressione che la intacca e la corrode nel suo stesso sostenerla
