The preparation and characterization of new infrared luminescent materials based on Er3+ which can be excited in the visible region with the help of oligothiphene ligands (OT) featuring the carboxylate functionality was addressed. The choice of this type of ligand was thus motivated by several considerations. Such considerations were good solubility, good transport properties, possibility to polymerize the complexes to obtain Er3+-containing conjugated polymers, efficient intersystem crossing into the triplet state and match between Er3+ and ligan electronic levels.

Abstract

The preparation and characterization of new infrared luminescent materials based on Er3+ which can be excited in the visible region with the help of oligothiphene ligands (OT) featuring the carboxylate functionality was addressed. The choice of this type of ligand was thus motivated by several considerations. Such considerations were good solubility, good transport properties, possibility to polymerize the complexes to obtain Er3+-containing conjugated polymers, efficient intersystem crossing into the triplet state and match between Er3+ and ligan electronic levels.
