This paper investigates how case-based reasoning and storytelling can be integrated to build computational system to support the training of newcomers in wide organisations, according to learning by doing strategy. Different from traditional training methods, based on the institution of a dialogue between the scholar and the teacher, learning by doing methodology aims at reaching practical competence and experience about problem solving strategies adopted within organisations through real cases to be solved by the newcomer, who is requested to propose his or her problem solving strategy and compare it with the one adopted by an expert. Due to its extremely practical nature, learning by doing is very difficult to be supported by computational techniques. This paper illustrates a conceptual and computational framework exploiting the case-based reasoning paradigm, where the problem to solve in the learning by doing context is modelled as a story. Abstract
