Small concordant stocks of K-rich syenites, forming an integral part of Sikkim Igneous Formation, intrude the Daling Formation below the Main Central Thrust (MCT) in Sikkim, Lesser Himalaya. Geochemical parameters indicate anorogenic, within-plate nature of these syenites, which may have been formed due to the melting of Indian continental crust at the northern tip of the Indian craton during Cretaceous time (100-90 Ma). It has been suggested that the K-rich syenites in the Sikkim Himalaya were originated due to the enrichment of the mantle source region during metasomatism caused by fluids derived from melting of crustal slab at the time of subduction of Indo-Eurasian plates.
